Benjasiri Park, right at the foot of the BTS Skytrain station at Phrom Phong, is an oasis of greenery treasured by local residents and travelers alike. It is popular throughout the day and into the evening, offering plenty of space for those seeking cleaner air and a place to exercise, as well as those just looking for a place to relax in the shade.
A central lake is surrounded by grass, trees, gardens and exercise equipment, with a track for walking and running on the periphery. There are a couple of kiosks selling ice cream, drinks and simple snacks. Opening hours are from 05:00 to 21:00, and as a public park it is open to all without charge.
Find a park bench in the shade, or spread out in the grass under the trees for a picnic or a nap, watching the squirrels and birds cavort in the trees or the multitude of cats patrolling the grounds and amusing the visitors. Or take a stroll to see the many fish and turtles that live in the central lake, or to enjoy the modern art sculptures sprinkled throughout the sculptured gardens.
For those wishing to stretch their limbs and get away from the traffic for some fresh air, the track is wide enough to accommodate both walkers and runners, and the outdoor exercise equipment can be used for free. You may find people jogging, skateboarding, practicing yoga, tai chi or fitness programs, or playing volleyball, basketball or sepak takraw. And there are two separate playgrounds for children.
Evenings and early mornings are the best times of day to enjoy cooling breezes. If you come in the heat of the day, be wary of the equatorial sun. Bring a hat and drink water!
If you are staying at Emporium Suites by Chatrium, don’t forget to visit, as this lovely park is only a few minutes walk from your door!
