About the Tazaung Daing Kahtein Festival
A joyous parade led by a team of drummers and musicians starts the Kathein ceremony, held at the end of the rainy season between the full moons of October and November. Lay people follow the musicians with Kathein trees that are decorated with Myanmar currency pinned into sticks, and move through the city collecting alms. On arrival at the temple, the Buddhist monks are presented with yellow robes and the alms are donated to the temple.
